MCQ, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Taking designs to a uniquely dark and dramatic place is nothing Alexander McQueen is afraid of. This silk-blend jumper printed with an ethereal but moody, mirrored precision of an iris is the perfect everyday piece that reveals this designer's touch. MUST HAVE!

IN BED WITH 'WASTED YOUTH'

'WASTED YOUTH' exposes some of the best known work from London based art-duo Tim Noble and Sue Webster. Shadow sculptures made from discarded rubbish, animals and other matter that are then illuminated from a single light source creating portraits of themselves. Also included in their body of work are light sculptures which flaunt the kitsch art forms of Las Vegas strip hotels and tattoo parlours into iconic tropes of pop art.
Intrigued by the artist's career I was allured to this site-specific installation in the Blain Southern space, Berlin. 'Turning the seventh corner' draws on Tim Noble and Sue Webster's other creations, however the desire of this piece is its key. The aim was to maintain an air of mystery much like the tombs of the Egyptian Pharaohs, a labyrinth of tunnels that spiral, sprawl and ultimately disorient, forcing the viewer to become the explorers of this journey. After passing around seven corners, viewers enter a tomb-like cavern where the secret of this creation is revealed.

THE FACTORY

One of my love affairs is following and admiring some of the worlds unique architectural designs. Yes, I am a dreamer and play on the idea of having my own but in the mean time I continually follow with intrigue to see what man has done and can do over the years and the years to come.
"The factory is a magic place which strange atmosphere is difficult to be perceived by a profane eye. I like the life to be perfectly programmed here, ritualised, in total contrast with my turbulent nomad life."
Ricardo Bofill
Conversion starting in 1973
Completed in 1975

They call it the cement factory, part of an industrial complex from the turn of the century, comprising of over 30 silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms. In 1973, architect Ricardo Bofill discovered this factory in Barcelona abandoned, partially in ruins, stairs climbing to nowhere, reinforced concrete structures that sustained nothing, pieces of iron hanging in the air and huge empty spaces. What man would not want to experiment with his surrealist eye and potential for transformation let alone make it his workplace?
"I am a nomad, I am still a nomad, a traveller without port, require to establish reference points according to my journey. I was born in Barcelona, my father as catalan and my mother from Venice, I am at the crossroads of two cultures that clashed and melted throughout history"
Ricardo Bofill

JUST OFF THE SHORES AND INTO UTOPIA

I would have to say that one of the most amazing parts of my job is the travel and wow this year has taken me to some magical places of the world but never have I really experienced the true beauty that is here in Australia.
Only a couple of hours flying from Sydney I was introduced to Hamilton Island and all its wonders.
You can stay luxurious at the world renowned Qualia resort or be self contained and tucked away at the Palm Bungalows. Dive in the crystal clear water and witness all that the Great Barrier Reef has on show, not to mention being charmed by every sunrise and sunset.
A true slice of Australia paradise and an instigrammers dream.....
